nice to meet you
Born in Indiana in a freak April snowstorm, raised amongst ears of corn and fireflies. My parents opened the accent shop in Indianapolis and I hung out in a basket behind the counter at the store.
Years later I went to Rhode Island School of Design, where I was exposed to Chihuly, Chris Van Allsburg and similarly creative minds. I graduated with a degree in graphic design and found my first design job creating packaging behind the Wrigley tower in Chicago. Cindy Crawford was our hosiery model. I worked so intensely that once I answered the phone in my business voice "sheer to waist, this is Anne speaking!"—fortunately it was the client on the other line and we had a good laugh.
When my sister graduated from college a few years behind me, we went on a 1,000 mile bicycle tour of Europe through six countries. It was there that I met the father of my children.
We sent letters back and forth and I eventually moved to California with Crate & Barrel. They were my business school, and I grew up with them, eventually managing their Palo Alto store and 75 people.
Then my second child was born, my father died, my husband and I separated and I hit reset. We moved to Colorado in 1998 and raised our kids together in houses three blocks apart.
I went back to school to learn design technology and made the dean's list. From there, I had the opportunity to work for an all women design firm in Boulder with clients like IBM, Intrado and Johnson and Johnson.
The economy shifted and I freelanced for a year before landing a full time design position at Sopris West, an educational publisher, specializing in at-risk students. This was my home for 12 years with an amazing team, researching and creating designs that inspire and inform learning.
And now for the next collaboration. I'd like to work with a team that eventually feels like family, where we know each other's strengths and weaknesses and we move mountains. I'd like to create bridges between different people and ideas for the common good. Let's make it happen.
